Monday, April 12 or Tuesday, April 13, Muslims around the globe start observing the holy month of Ramadan. There are 1.6 billion people that identify as Muslim. Islam is defined by “Five Pillars”.  Fasting during the holiday is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, along with the daily prayer, declaration of faith, charity and performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The fast is intended to remind Muslims of the suffering of those less fortunate.

So if you see someone you know to be a practicing Muslim, greet them with “Ramadan Mubarak” means “Have a blessed Ramadan”. You don’t have to be participating in Ramadan to say “Ramadan Mubarak”

For those of us who are not fasting we will be distributing food on Wednesday. We have bread, fresh produce and combo boxes.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, How does your garden grow?

We met Friday on Zoom to discuss the preliminary plans for the garden at the abuse shelter. We are starting to price the materials and will report back of our approach. It is very exciting.

The Word is Out

Pat’s Pantry has doubled their distribution to our neighbors.

BELLisimo Lasagna Ladies are working their way through the list of neighbors that have requested lasagnas.

Catch the Bagman

If you have reusable bags, please consider donating them to us? If you cannot drop them off at the church, email me directly and we can figure some way to get the bags.

ACTION!

The film classes and film festival starts on Tuesday May 4rd. To sign up for the class, email info@19aid.com. Please put Film Class in the subject line and the name of the student, age/grade, school. Hope to see a lot of smiling faces, albeit virtually, on May 4rd.

Our volunteers are the backbone of the entire operation. Where would we be without our volunteers? If you have some time, we start setting up around 2PM at the Morgan Park Presbyterian Church located at 11052 S Longwood Dr. in Morgan Park. It would be great if you can make it out and join us.

Wishing you all the best and “Ramadan Mubarak”
