Hello All,An Gorta Mor is Irish for the Great Hunger, often referred to as the Irish Potato Famine. There is nothing more Irish then feeding our neighbors who are in need. I guess we will all be Irish today, as today is Wednesday and we will be open for our food pantry. We start setting up at 2PM and we are open to the public at 3PM.
We had a meeting on Friday to discuss the garden that we plan on building at the domestic abuse shelter. We shared the surveys of the property and will be doing a walk through on Tuesday March 23rd at 4PM. We are meeting at the Edna White Garden on 111th Street. If you are interested in the garden, please join us if you can.
It’s Our Bag
Thank you for the donation of the Chi Tung bags and other reusable bags. Please keep them coming. If you have any of the reusable bags lying about, please consider donating them to us? If you cannot drop them off at the church, email me directly and we can figure some way to get the bags.
And I would like to thank the Academy…
Last week we discussed creating an online movie class for the students in the area, both elementary and high school. We are looking to have the students make films on Being a Student in the Time of COVID. We are lining up industry speakers and working around their schedule. I will let you know when we have everyone in place.
I would like to thank Erica and Matt for over 9,000 diapers that they donated. Instead of having a baby shower, Erica and Matt hosted a diaper drive and donated them to our neighbors. This was such generous and inventive way to help out community. Our neighbors were elated to see that we had diapers available for their little ones.
Emma has created a map locating food banks in and around the 19th ward and organized by aid group. https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit…. Check it out.
Emma posted a video that she created from last week’s distribution. Check your preferred social media outlet. Our links are in our signature.
Kathy wishes her father happy birthday by organizing a food drive over the weekend benefitting the food pantry.
We are so very appreciative of everyone’s support. Since we have food boxes we could use a some volunteers to help out with the distributing food. If you have some time, we start setting up around 2PM at the Morgan Park Presbyterian Church located at 11052 S Longwood Dr. in Morgan Park. It would be great if you can make it out and join us. As always: Everyone is welcome. No ID needed. Take what you need. No questions asked.
After all, it is Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
Please keep warm, safe and healthy.
Wishing you all the best,
Go raibh maith agat – Thank you in Irish.
Since we are now all Irish, Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
